Motorcyclist killed in accident on Penang Bridge; DUI suspected

GEORGE TOWN: A motorcyclist who was killed in an accident on Penang Bridge this morning was believed to have been carrying plastic bags of ketum water on his machine.

The bags were found scattered and the content spilled on the road at KM5.9 of the bridge after Shamsuddin Chat lost control of his motorcycle.

The 53-year-old factory worker died on the spot.

Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Che Zaimani Che Awang said it was too early to say if it was ketum water, but samples have been taken to ascertain if it was indeed ketum.

Che Zaimani said the victim’s blood samples have been taken to see if he was riding his machine under the influence.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
