Bomb threat hoax triggers evacuation of 2,500 IMU students

KUALA LUMPUR: An anonymous bomb threat phoned in to the International Medical University (IMU) at Bukit Jalil here today triggered a mass evacuation of the campus.

Up to 2,500 students were ordered to leave the premises at about 2pm, IMU vice president Christy Chiu told Bernama.

“We contacted the police after the bomb threat call came in at 1.10pm,” she said.

She added that police combed the campus for about three hours before giving the all-clear.

“They have now declared this place safe,” Chiu said.

Police at the scene followed standard operating procedures in dealing with the threat, said Cheras district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamed Mokhsein Mohamed Zon.

“(We) will inform (you of more) developments later,” he said when contacted by reporters.

IMU, which was established in 1992, has never experienced such an incident.
