PM hints Hari Raya 'aid' for civil servants [NSTTV]

GEORGE TOWN: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today hinted that there will be a Hari Raya ‘bonus’ for civil servants in the country.

Ambushed by newsmen after the 48th national-level Teacher’s Day celebration here today, he said:

“Ada (yes there will be). We will declare it later.

“It is not bonus but ‘bantuan’ (aid) Hari Raya”.

Newsmen had asked him if civil servants would get Hari Raya bonus this year.

It was reported that the Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) had expressed hope that the government would consider giving bonus to civil servants and retirees before Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Cuepacs president Datuk Azih Muda said that he had spoken with the Chief Secretary to the Government and sent a letter to the Prime Minister and Finance Minister regarding this.

He had said that every civil servant should receive a bonus of RM1,000, while retirees from Grade 54 and below should receive RM500.

Several states such as Penang, Perak and Negeri Sembilan have announced Hari Raya bonus for their staff.
