Toll discounts on 23 highways for Hari Raya

KLANG: Users of Class 1 vehicles will get toll discounts between 10 and 33 per cent on 23 highways in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri next week.

However, three tolled highways will be offering discounts at only certain toll plazas namely Ampangan for the Lebuh Raya Kajang-Seremban (LEKAS), Pulau Indah toll plaza at Lebuh Raya Lembah Klang Selatan (SKVE) and the Perling and Lima Kedai toll plazas on the Lebuh Raya Laluan Kedua (LINKEDUA).

Works Minister Baru Bian who announced the discounts here today said the discounts were effective for 24 hours from midnight on the eve of Hari Raya till 11.59pm on the first day of Hari Raya.

“The discounts are in line with the corporate social responsibility (CSR) of the highway concessionaires,” he said, adding the initiative has been around since 2010, with discounts given from five to 100 per cent.

He was speaking to reporters after launching Grand Sepadu Highway’s Road Safety Campaign in conjunction with the Aidilfitri festive season at its North Klang R & R.

The list of 23 highways is not yet available.

In his speech, Baru said accident rate during Hari Raya festive season was on a decline since Ops Selamat 11 in 2016.

Ops Selamat 13 for Hari Raya last year saw a 11.5 per cent drop in the accident rate with 895 cases, he said, adding that the Malaysian Highway Authority had issued orders to stop all road maintenance work on major highways and important roads from tomorrow till June 13 to facilitate the heavy traffic flow, except in cases of emergencies.

He noted that the Road Transport Department was also enforcing a ban on heavy vehicles from using the highways for five days, from June 1 to3 and June 8 to 9, for the same purpose.

Meanwhile, more than half a million road users are expected to benefit from special Hari Raya toll discounts on Lebuhraya Damansara- Puchong (LDP) and Lebuhraya Shah Alam (KESAS).

The highway concessionaires, LITRAK and KESAS yesterday announced a one-day toll discount of 70 sens and 20 sens for LDP and KESAS highway users (class 1 vehicle) on June 5 ( Wednesday) starting from June 5 at 12am to 11.59pm the following day.

This was announced by the Malaysian Highway Authority Director General Datuk Aziz Abdullah at Majlis Jalinan Mesra and Iftar Ramadhan LITRAK and SPRINT 2019 with Pusat Jagaan Telaga Kasih Nur Muhammad, Kota Damansara at Kompleks Operasi LITRAK in Subang Jaya today.

Litrak Chief Executive Officer Sazally Saidi said 516,000 motorists would benefit from the RM256,000 toll subsidy at both LDP and KESAS on the first day of Aidilfitri this year.

"Litrak, since 2010 has contributed almost RM14.3 million toll subsidy to highway users. We understand the need to travel more to visit friends and family members during festive periods.

“We hope that through this initiative, we are able to share the joy of Hari Raya celebration with all our highway users," he said.

The event also saw the launch of Road Safety Campaign specifically for motorcyclists, and some 50 underprivileged children were given duit Raya after being taken on a shopping spree at Aeon Shah Alam.

Sazally said the Road Safety Campaign aimed at making highways and roads safer.
