Not the new black: MACC scraps orange lock-up t-shirt

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has stopped the practice of bringing suspects into court in the infamous orange lock-up uniform.

MACC chief commissioner Latheefa Koya said that the move is in line with the principle of the presumption of innocence, and Clause 5 (1) of the Federal Constitution.

However, she said that the MACC would not compromise on issues relating to corruption and in doing so, will enforce the rule of law at all times.

"Handcuffs will only be used when necessary – for example if there is a risk (the suspect) would flee or behave aggressively.

"However, the use of handcuffs is not allowed in the courtroom," she said in a statement here, today.
