Water supply in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur 84pc restored

KUALA LUMPUR: Water supply in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, which was disrupted due to diesel pollution in Sungai Selangor, has been restored by 84 per cent at all affected areas as at 1pm today.

Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd's Head of Communications and Consumer Relations Department Abdul Raof Ahmad also said water supply to the affected areas in Hulu Selangor and Kuala Selangor has been almost completely restored.

“Supply in affected areas in Kuala Lumpur has been restored by 82 per cent, Klang/Shah Alam (75 per cent), Petaling (70 per cent), Gombak (98 per cent), and Kuala Langat (47 per cent).

“Supply restoration in affected areas has shown a positive recovery. We are working to raise pressure and stabilise supply in the distribution systems as well as expedite restoration,” he said in a statement today.

Raof in an earlier statement said the restoration process is being carried out and the target for total restoration of water supply to all the affected areas is 9am on Saturday.

He said members of the public can get the latest information on water supply disruption through the ‘Air Selangor’ mobile application or the website www.syabas.com.my, from the Facebook account ‘Air Selangor’ and Twitter @air_selangor.

“We would also like to seek the cooperation of customers who have received their supply to use water sparingly and avoid wastage to help expedite the supply to all areas”, he said.

Last Friday, 1,191,942 customer accounts in Kuala Lumpur, Petaling, Klang, Shah Alam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Kuala Langat were affected by unscheduled water disruption after diesel pollution was detected in phase 1, 2 and 3 of the Sungai Selangor water treatment plant and the Rantau Panjang water plant near here.
