Sabah-bound plane lands in Miri after woman shows signs of giving birth

MIRI: An AirAsia plane, enroute from Kuala Lumpur to Sandakan, made a quick stop in Miri on Sunday when a passenger, who is at the late stage of pregnancy, showed early signs of labour.

Flight AK5194, carrying 130 passengers and six crew members, made an emergency landing at the Miri Airport at 5.28pm.

Miri Airport manager Zainal Abidin Harun said after landing, paramedics immediately rushed the unnamed passenger to Miri Hospital for further checks.

"We have been informed that the woman has safely given birth to a boy at 5.58pm. She is from Sandakan, Sabah and was on her way home from Kuala Lumpur at the time of the incident." he said.

Zainal Abidin added that the AirAsia flight continued its journey at 6.27pm.
