KUALA LUMPUR: A cyclist was killed after being run over by a lorry at Batu 10 Jalan Gombak Lama today.
Gombak district police chief Assistant Commissioner Arifai Tarawe said the 44-year-old victim was killed on the spot in the 11.50am accident.
Arifai said the victim was cycling along Jalan Gombak Lama heading to Kuala Lumpur when he was hit by the lorry.
“The 48-year-old lorry driver was attempting to overtake the victim, who was cycling alone that time.
“The victim lost control of his bicycle when the lorry was overtaking him. He fell near the left rear wheel of the lorry and was run over.
“The lorry driver stopped his vehicle and found the victim dead at the scene,” he said in a statement today.
Arifai said the victim’s body has been sent to Selayang Hospital for a post-mortem and the case has been classified under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless driving.
