Pahang flood situation improves; 3 relief centres in Raub closed

KUANTAN: The flood situation in Pahang has improved slightly this evening with 1,053 victims from 271 families left at 10 temporary relief centres (PPS) in three districts - Rompin, Temerloh and Bera - compared to 1,114 victims from 290 families in four districts earlier today.

Three flood relief centres in Raub were closed today.

Pahang Civil Defence Force (APM) director Colonel Zainal Yusoff said the three Raub's PPS, namely Kampung Kuala Gali hall, Kampung Ajai mosque and Kampung Temau mosque, were closed about 4pm after all 61 people returned to their respective homes.

"The weather has improved in Raub and the victims decided to return to start cleaning their homes. They were evacuated to the relief centres in stages yesterday morning after their homes were inundated following heavy rain since Sunday.

"There is no changes in the remaining three districts. Rompin remains worst hit with 1,005 people taking shelter at eight PPS, followed by Bera (25 people at 1 PPS) and Temerloh (23 people at 1 PPS)," he said in a statement today.

Zainal said six roads were forced to close following floods namely Jalan Maran – Jerantut Benta(near Maran temple) and Jalan Maran – Jerantut Benta in Maran, Lubuk Batu bridge in Rompin, Jalan Ulu Retang – Merting and Jalan Sungai Yap – Pasir Tambang in Jerantut, and Jalan Kemayan – Tembangau in Bera.
