Slight improvement in Pahang floods; three rivers above warning level

KUANTAN: The flood situation in Pahang is showing slight improvement with three districts in the state still inundated.

At noon today, 1,071 victims from 276 families still remained at nine temporary relief centres (PPS) in three districts – Rompin, Temerloh and Bera – compared to 1,114 victims from 290 families last night.

Pahang Civil Defence Force (APM) director Colonel Zainal Yusoff said Rompin remains worst hit with 980 people taking shelter at seven PPS, followed by Bera (25 people at 1 PPS) and Temerloh (66 people at 1 PPS).

"There has been minimum improvement in the three districts as it is still raining. Yesterday, three relief centres in Raub were closed after 61 victims returned home when flood waters in their village subsided.

"Fifteen villages in Rompin are affected by the floods, three in Bera and one in Temerloh," he said in a statement today.

Zainal said Lubuk Batu bridge in Rompin and Jalan Sungai Yap-Pasir Tambang in Jerantut were closed to all vehicles while Jalan Maran-Jerantut Benta(near Maran temple), Jalan Maran-Jerantut Benta in Maran, Jalan Ulu Retang-Merting in Jerantut and Jalan Kemayan in Bera is closed to light vehicles.

He said three rivers in Kuantan, Pekan and Bera were above their warning levels this morning.

Sungai Lepar near Jambatan Gelugor in Kuantan is at 29.28 metres (its warning level is 29.25m) while the reading at Sungai Pahang in Paloh Inai, Pekan is at 9.68 metres (its warning level is 9.67m) and Sg. Triang in Bera is at 33.90m (its warning level is 33.80m).
