Shock as Selangor Bersatu Youth chief arrested for drug offence

SHAH ALAM: Selangor Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Youth chief Adhif Syan Abdullah was arrested for an alleged drug offence on Sunday.

The matter was confirmed by Bersatu vice-president and Selangor Bersatu chairman Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari today.

He said Adhif, who is also the Dengkil state assemblyman, is believed to have been detained along with a few ministerial special officers at an entertainment outlet in Damansara, Petaling Jaya, at 1.30am.

Adhif allegedly tested positive for drugs during the raid.

News of Adhif’s arrest surfaced on social media and went viral today.

However, Adhif had reportedly denied he had been arrested. He has yet to respond to NST’s telephone calls and WhatsApp messages.

“Yes, he was arrested. That is confirmed. I have checked with the Home Ministry (KDN) and that was the information I received.

“The matter is now under investigation, so I do not want to make further comment on that. So far, he has not contacted me.

“I have no idea where he is now – whether he is at home or at a police station. I will wait for the results of the investigation and I will check with the police,” Abdul Rashid told the NST today.

Abdul Rashid, who is Selat Klang state assemblyman, said this after attending the state government’s monthly assembly at the Selangor secretariat building.

Asked if the party would initiate action against Adhif if he is found guilty of wrongdoing, Rashid merely said that the incident has been brought to the attention of Bersatu’s top leadership.

“I have discussed it with our president (Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin). We are waiting for the results of the police investigation. I do not know what (Bersatu’s response) would be, but if there is a case, then no man is above the law.

“He will be referred to the party’s disciplinary committee if there is (a case). That will be later on,” he said.

Abdul Rashid added that the party will not hesitate to act against any leader or member involved in drug offences or other illegal activities.

“We will not tolerate it. Our Prime Minister (Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Bersatu chairman) is very strict about this. If Adhif had committed an offence, then he has to face (the consequences),” he said.

Abdul Rashid also called on party leaders and members to stay away from illegal activities and focus on their duties to serve the people.
