'Report Covid-19-related work issues'

KUALA LUMPUR: Workers who were laid off or have had their salaries reduced due to the Covid-19 outbreak in Malaysia have been urged to lodge a report with the Labour Department.

The Human Resource Ministry yesterday said it was monitoring the situation, with the Manpower Department disseminating information on the matter.

“The information is accessible on the department’s official website, jtksm. mohr.gov.my,” said the statement.

The ministry advised employers to refer to the Guidelines for Handling Disease-Related Issues Including Covid-19 at Work Places that was issued by the Manpower Department on Feb 7.

It said up to yesterday, 634 employees, involving 10 employers in three sectors, including tourism, had been laid off or had their salaries cut due to the spread of Covid-19.

Of that number, 111 employees were laid off temporarily, 64 lost their jobs permanently and 459 received lower pay.

The states affected most were Melaka, involving 369 employees, followed by Selangor (223) and Kuala Lumpur (42).

The sectors involved were manufacturing (369 workers), administration and support services (263) and tourism and retail (two). - BERNAMA
