S'gor launches Ramadan e-Bazaar called Platform Selangor

KUALA LUMPUR: There will be no physical Ramadan bazaars in Selangor this year, but that doesn’t mean the people will not be spoilt for choice when it comes to their favourite delicacies for breaking their fast.

There will be 67 restaurants boasting a variety of Ramadan must-have dishes and delicacies online as Selangor has introduced yet another e-Bazaar Ramadan avenue called Platform Selangor (PLATS).

This is an addition to an earlier partnership between the Selangor state government and Grab Malaysia specially created to mark the Ramadan month.

Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said 77 e-kitchens or distribution centres consisting of 10 multipurpose halls under the purview of local councils had been identified.

The e-kitchens are where food and beverages ordered through the online platforms will be picked up and sent via delivery companies such as Grab, BungkusIt, Mr Speedy, ZeptoExpress and MatDespatch.

“There will be absolutely no cooking at the e-kitchens and there is no walk-in buying either. Social distancing and a strict hygiene practices will be enforced.

“Food operators must also get typhoid vaccination as stipulated in the Health Ministry and the local council’s standard operating procedures,” said Amirudin today.

He added the Selangor e-Bazar Ramadan was the state’s sole initiative and it would not be responsible for any form of similar bazaars organised by other parties.

Amirudin also called on e-hailing companies, food operators as well as hall or facility owners to participate in Selangor e-Bazar Ramadan by contacting Hijrah, the state’s micro-credit programme, PLATS or Grab.

He said the state had an allocation of RM600,000 as digitalisaion incentives and to encourage petty traders to participate in Selangor e-Bazar Ramadan, an easy financing scheme without interest of between RM3,000 and RM5,000 would be offered through Hijrah Selangor.

“I am confident and believe that in every crisis, opportunities will arise for us to do better. The Selangor Digitalisation Initiative through PLATS is a game changer that will help us face life’s new normal.

“Selangor will take the lead towards this road of progress,” he added.
