MCO: Man detained for using mother's ID to get through police roadblock

KEPALA BATAS: A man was arrested for using his mother's health personnel identification card to try to pass a roadblock at Bertam here, yesterday.

In the 4.45pm incident, police checked the 25-year-old’s car but did not find any unlawful items.

A further probe found that he was on his way to pick up his mother, who works at Seberang Jaya Hospital – hence the reason he was carrying her ID.

Seberang Prai Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Noorzainy Mohd Noor confirmed the arrest and said that the man will be remanded later today.

The case is being investigated under Section 11 (1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020.

Meanwhile, police also detained 13 men for flouting the Movement Control Order (MCO) at various locations in Sungai Dua and Mak Mandin.

The 13, aged between 20 and 30, include five foreigners from Nepal, Myanmar and Sri Lanka.

The case is being investigated under Section 186 and 269 of the Penal Code and Section 11 (1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020.

"They will be remanded from today onwards.

"We urge members of the public to adhere to the MCO to stop the spread of Covid-19," said Noorzainy.
