EMCO lifted, but restrictions remain for Simpang Renggam villages

JOHOR BARU: A one-week cooling off period will be implemented in two areas in Simpang Renggam following the end of the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) imposed there.

State Health and Environment Committee chairman R Vidyananthan said during the period, no movement into and out of Kampung Datuk Ibrahim Majid and Bandar Baharu Datuk Ibrahim Majid is allowed.

"Residents in the areas are allowed to resume their daily activities like buying essential items, but their movement is limited to the two areas.

"The government will no longer provide daily essential items to the residents, therefore the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry has been directed to ensure that the supply of these items at seven premises in the area is sufficient to meet the demand there," said Vidyananthan in a statement.

He said residents can still call the Simpang Renggam Distict Council (MDSR) operation room to get supplies of specialised items.

"Although the restrictions in the two areas have been lifted, the Health Ministry and the police will continue to monitor the situation there to ensure that they remain safe and under control," said Vidyananthan.

On Monday, Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that the EMCO in the two areas, which began on March 27, will be lifted today.
