KOTA KINABALU: More than 300 policemen who returned to Sabah from Sarawak recently are undergoing quarantine at several police facilities here.
Sabah Health Department (JKNS) director Datuk Dr Christina Rundi said the personnel had just completed training in Sarawak and returned to Sabah on May 5.
"All of them had their samples taken and are required to undergo quarantine at a police training centre here and at the General Task Force (base) in Kinarut.
"JKNS has been actively screening incoming travellers and our team will check health declaration forms and take samples before handing them home surveillance order forms," she said in a statement.
Health authorities also conducted checks on 529 students from the Sultan Idris Education University in Perak.
Sabah has 33 active Covid-19 cases, with a new case reported in Tawau yesterday.
Meanwhile, in a separate statement, state Health and People's Wellbeing minister Datuk Frankie Poon said a campaign will be launched soon on the proper disposal of face masks.
He added that the Ministry will be working with local authorities to create awareness on the proper way to dispose of used face masks.
"Used face masks are considered medical waste, as they could be contaminated and potentially spread the virus or disease to others, if not properly disposed of.
"The public must be more mindful of how and where they discard their masks."
