Wisma Putra records first Covid-19 case

KUALA LUMPUR: The Foreign Ministry (Wisma Putra) identified its first Covid-19 positive case involving a staff on Friday.

Its minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said the staff tested positive for the coronavirus during a health screening held at the ministry.

"The staff did not show any symptoms such as fever, flu, cough or sore throat and is now a patient at the Sungai Buloh Hospital for further medical treatment.

"Wisma Putra has also identified staff from various divisions including those attached with the Minister's Office who have been categorised as close contacts with the positive Covid-19 staff.

"All close contacts have been directed to undergo health screening today (May 30) and have been instructed to undergo a mandatory 14-day quarantine at home starting today," said Hishammuddin in a statement.

On this note, the minister said disinfection works would be conducted immediately by the Fire and Rescue Department.

"Everything that Wisma Putra has done is in line with the Health Ministry's Covid-19 Pandemic prevention standard operating procedures (SOPs).

"The ministry has and will continue practising social distancing as well as strict hygiene protocols at all time," he said.

Hishammuddin also reminded all staff and the ministry's customers to comply with the SOPs set by the Health Ministry including wearing face masks, washing hands with soap or hand sanitiser, practising social distancing and being aware of one's body temperature.

It was later learnt that the minister and the Minister's Office have also been advised to undergo a 14-day home quarantine.
