No Covid-19 cases among Kelantan students, teachers

KOTA BARU: No school teacher or student in Kelantan has tested positive for Covid-19.

Kelantan Health director Datuk Dr Zaini Hussin said that all five infections detected in the state on Oct 7 are close contacts of Sabah returnees, and none is linked to schools.

He was commenting on fears expressed by parents over a rise in Covid-19 cases in Kelantan, which has led to school closures.

"So far, there are no teachers or students among the cases. Hopefully, it will remain that way.

"Our health staff will remain at the Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre to monitor the situation closely," Dr Zaini said when contacted today.

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said recently that schools which record Covid-19 cases are allowed to close immediately, without waiting for risk evaluation from the Health Ministry.

He said the National Security Council's (NSC) special meeting on Covid-19 had agreed to empower the Education Ministry to issue directives to shut schools in the event a positive case emerges.

The announcement followed reports that two SK Bangsar pupils contracted Covid-19, believed to have been infected by relatives who had attended a wedding reception recently.
