KUALA LUMPUR: Negri Sembilan recorded the highest number of Covid-19 cases today, with 318 from the overall total of 970.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said a majority of the cases today originated from the prison clusters.
"The increase in Negri Sembilan was influenced by the prison cluster such as the Bakti cluster which recorded a total 301 cases.
"The other cases there were from the Tembok cluster (12), Matambai (3), Penjara Sandakan (1) and Penjara Reman cluster (1)," he told a press conference at the ministry headquarters in Putrajaya today.
Dr Noor Hisham said other states with high number of positive cases were Sabah at 293 cases, followed by Selangor with 115.
Of the cases recorded today, he said 965 were local transmissions, while five were imported.
Dr Noor Hisham said four fatalities were recorded today, bringing the total deaths due to Covid-19 to 345.
"A total 110 patients are currently being treated in intensive care units, with 47 requiring ventilator support," he said.
Dr Noor Hisham said 2,348 patients have been discharged, bringing the cumulative total recoveries to 46,501 cases.
