Sungai Golok's water level above danger mark

RANTAU PANJANG: The water level of Sungai Golok here remains above its danger level today following heavy rain since last week.

According to the state welfare department's portal, the river's water level stood at 9.39m as of 10am, 0.39 above its danger level of 9m.

Kelantan state Flood Disaster Management secretariat Zainuddin Hussin said despite the rise of water levels at two rivers in the state, no one has been evacuated at the moment.

"Several low-lying areas such as Kampung Tersang, Kampung Lanchang and Kampung Siram have been inundated by floodwater since yesterday.

"But the situation is still under control and the villagers have yet to move from their homes," he added.

He advised villagers living in low-lying areas to be cautious and get ready to move if the situation worsens.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) yesterday issued a yellow level weather alert for several states nationwide.

MetMalaysia director-general Jailan Simon in a statement said heavy rain was expected until tomorrow in Kemaman, Terengganu; Pahang (Kuantan, Bera, Pekan and Rompin); and Sarawak (Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, Mukah and Bintulu).

He said the weather alert warning is also extended to several districts in Kelantan and Terengganu, with heavy rain expected from today until Monday.
