Now deputy minister Zahidi is down with Covid-19

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin has become the first deputy minister to test positive for Covid-19.

The deputy communications and multimedia minister did his Covid-19 screening upon his arrival in Kuala Lumpur from Penang on Monday.

A statement from his ministry said his results came out positive this morning.

"He tested negative for Covid-19 during a screening taken on Dec 25, 2020. He has been taken to the Sungai Buloh Hospital in Selangor to undergo further treatment, in line with the Health Ministry's guidelines.

"Zahidi is currently stable and apologises for any inconvenience caused," read the statement.

Three cabinet members have tested positive for Covid-19 so far this month. They are Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Economy) Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed; Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rina Harun; and, Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin.
