Seven new Covid-19 clusters detected in five states

KUALA LUMPUR: Seven new Covid-19 clusters have been detected in Johor, Negri Sembilan, Kedah, Terengganu and Kuala Lumpur.

One cluster was detected at a detention center, two within community, three are workplace-linked clusters and one involved a religious gathering cluster.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there are 356 active clusters nationwide, to-date.

"Ninety-five clusters reported new cases today, in which three clusters recorded the highest Covid-19 figures.

"They are the Pasai Cluster with 111 cases, Seri Bayu Cluster with 61 cases and the new Jalan Platinum Cluster which has logged in with 33 cases," he said in a statement, today.

Dr Noor Hisham said two clusters were detected in the Dungun and Setiu districts of Terengganu.

"The Tembok Bukit Besi Cluster was detected with index case 120,811, reported positive on January 4, following screenings of detainees at the Dungun Correctional Centre in Bukit Besi, Dungun.

"As of today, 1,131 individuals had been screened, in which 99 cases was reported Covid-19 positive.

"In Setiu district, the Kampung Bukit Putera Cluster was detected, after the index case 144,506 who is a Severe Acute Respiratory Infections (SARI) patient was reported positive on January 13.

"The name of the cluster refers to the locality of the case's residential area, which is at Kampung Bukit Putera, Bandar Permaisuri, Setiu.

"As of today, 293 individuals were screened, in which 25 had tested positive," he said.

In Johor, two new clusters were detected in Johor Baru and Kulai districts.

"The Jalan Platinum Cluster was detected in Johor Baru, after a targeted screening involving workers at a factory in Jalan Platinum, Pasir Gudang Industrial Area.

"As of today, 66 individuals were screened, in which 33 cases tested positive.

"Meanwhile, the Jalan Padi Mahsuri Cluster in Kulai, saw the index case 178,903 testing positive on January 23 after going for a pre-employment screening test.

"Cases for this cluster reside together in Jalan Padi Mahsuri, Taman Senai Baru, Kulai.

"As of today, 28 individuals had been screened, in which 25 was detected positive with Covid-19".

Meanwhile in Kuala Lumpur, the Jalan Cochrane Clusters was detected in the Titiwangsa district.

"Cases for this cluster was found positive today, after security guards working for a shopping mall located in Jalan Cochrane, went for targeted Covid-19 screenings.

"As of today, 76 individuals had been screened, in which 26 were detected positive".

Another workplace-linked cluster was detected in Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan.

"The Intan Delima cluster began with the index case 154,243 testing positive on January 16, after undergoing symptomatic screening, with an inter-state travel history from Johor.

"This cluster involves a public educational institution located in between Taman Bukit Intan and Taman Bahagia Delima.

"As of today, 253 individuals have been screened, in which 25 cases has been recorded positive.

In Kedah, a religious gathering cluster was detected in Kulim.

Dr Noor Hisham said the cluster started with index case 71,962 testing positive on January 21 based on symptomatic screening.

"The name of the cluster refers to the cases locality in which it happened in Kampung Keladi and Taman Saga, Kulim.

"As of January 26, 49 individuals have been screened, in which 34 has been recorded positive," he said.
