Missing 13-year-old girl found drowned

GUA MUSANG: The body of a 13-year-old girl who was swept away by strong currents in the Nenggiri River near Kampung Pulau Setelu on Friday, was found today.

The body of Nur Jannatul Alia Mohd Zamri was discovered some 15km from the spot where she went missing.

Gua Musang district police chief Superintendent Sik Choon Foo said the fully-clothed body of the girl was found floating close to the river bank by villagers.

"The villagers who were searching from their boats found the girl's body at about 9am.

"They then alerted the police," he said.

The body of the victim, a Form One student of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Tengku Bendahara, Bertam, was later sent to the district hospital for post-mortem.

Nur Jannatul Alia had gone to the river together with her elder sister, Nur Ain, 16, and their cousin, Nur Asma Kamaruddin, 14, when the incident happened.

Nur Ain and Nur Asma were rescued by their grandfather upon hearing their cries for help, but Nur Jannatul Alia was swept away by the strong currents.

The three went to the river with other family members for a picnic at about 4pm on Friday.
