KUALA LUMPUR: Viva Palestina Malaysia (VPM) and local business the Duck Group have raised RM1 million in emergency fund in just two days to support the Palestinian victims of Israel's atrocities.
In a statement today, the Duck Group said the emergency fund, set up via Kitafund, would be used to provide medical aid and other critical needs for affected Palestinians.
It said the group, which initially aimed to reach the target by the end of May, would continue to raise money, with 100 per cent of the proceeds to be donated to the Palestinians.
Duck Group co-founder Vivy Yusof said it was the group's most successful fund-raising campaign so far, adding that donations were pouring in not just from Malaysians but also from all over the world.
"People are donating whatever amount they can afford, from RM1 to RM1,000," she said.
VPM, formerly known as COMPLETE, is a coalition of 50 Malaysian non-governmental organisations (NGO) which strives to provide an advocacy group for the Palestinian people and support in raising funds to finance various medical, educational, micro-financing, housing, and agricultural projects in Palestine.
Kitafund is a crowdfunding platform for medical and humanitarian needs and emergencies.

"As a brand, the Duck Group will also be launching a special collection 'The Palestine dUCk' in June where 100 per cent of the profit from the collection will be donated to VPM," it said, adding that through the collection, customers would be able to own a product from the Duck brand while providing additional support to the cause.-- BERNAMA
