Malaysians keen on full lockdown to stem Covid-19

KUALA LUMPUR: When Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob requested for feedback and suggestions from his Facebook followers yesterday, they overwhelmingly responded with calls for a full lockdown.

Clad in a white shirt and sarong, the minister was seen seated on his green couch, scrolling through and reading comments on his handheld device.

"Everyday after work, I will steal some time to read netizen's comments.

"I take concern (of these feedback) and I will forward your views to the top authorities," he said, asking netizens to share their feedback and suggestions for the country.

His post led to calls for a total lockdown flooding his page.

One Facebook user, Salasiah Abdul Hamid, said: "Full lockdown, Pak Long (uncle). There is no need to keep shopping complexes open. Then, no one will have excuse to roam around."

She said the most important thing was to ensure sufficient supplies at wet markets without any price hike by traders.

"Pak Long, please inform the Gardenia company to prepare more bread should you impose a total lockdown. We are wrestling for bread as though it's money. We don't know how to make our own bread," she added.

Another Facebook user, Liz Eliza urged the minister to impose a total lockdown for three weeks as frontliners are under strain.

"We are more willing to endure three weeks (of total lockdown) rather than struggling like this for years," she said.

Mohd Zairy Mohd Ghazali requested for food delivery service to operate until 9.30pm during the stricter Movement Control Order (MCO) period.

"Currently, food delivery service stops at 7.30pm. But some people want to have their dinner between 8-10pm," he said.

Amid the serious conversations, netizens also spotted a cute, ginger-coloured feline (Oyen), quietly seated by the minister's side as he read the public's laments.

Facebook user, Bunga Mei, said: "When a household has a cat that seats with its master on a lounge chair, the master is a good, caring and concerned person. Excited to see Oyen beside (the minister!)," she said.
