Family proud of daughter's sacrifices

JEMPOL: While mourning the loss of his elder sister, a man expressed overwhelming pride and admiration for her sacrifices as a nurse.

Mohd Nur Amin Mohd Zamri, 25, said his sister, Siti Aishah, 26, died after she contracted Covid-19 from a patient.

"You had a noble duty Cah… you sacrificed your life to take care of patients and we are so proud of you.

"Our family is still shocked by this incident. She was seven months pregnant with her first baby and the baby also died in her womb," he told Harian Metro when met at Kampung Serting Tengah, yesterday.

Mohd Nur Amin said his sister who was the second of four siblings was a nurse at the Labuan Hospital and died at 10.40am on Wednesday (June 2), after being admitted on May 26.

He said Siti Aishah contracted the virus after she was identified as a close contact to a patient receiving treatment at the ward.

The last time he met his sister was in January before she was transferred to the Labuan Hospital to follow her husband, Lieutenant Muhammad Iqmall Muhammad Sukri who is a Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) officer on duty there.

Mohd Nur Amin said, the last time he contacted Siti Aishah was on May 30 when he also managed to give her some encouragement.

"At the time, she still experienced a fever, headaches and rapid heartbeats for both her and the baby but did not have any shortness of breath. She also contacted my parents and asked for forgiveness as she felt she would not wake up the next day," he said.

On May 31, he said his brother-in-law called at noon to inform that Siti Aishah was admitted to the intensive care unit due to internal bleeding, but the baby was fine.

Mohd Nur Amin said he and his family were shocked to hear the news but prayed that nothing would happen to his sister.

"However, at 11am yesterday, we were informed by Muhammad Iqmall that my sister had died along with her unborn baby.

"According to him, his sister's body was buried in Labuan at 10am."

Despite the loss, Mohd Nur Amin said, he and his family were calm and accepted her death.

He said his family wished to thank all the staff at the Labuan Hospital and the RMAF who cared for his sister while receiving treatment.
