Covid-19 count at Cyberjaya school soars to 139

KUALA LUMPUR: The mass Covid-19 breakout at Sekolah Seri Puteri in Cyberjaya, Sepang, which was declared the Persiaran Tasik Cluster on Nov 29, has now recorded 139 positive cases, a sharp increase from 65 yesterday.

The number of confirmed cases had grown following testing on 946 individuals comprising teachers, students and staff up to 3pm today, said Selangor Health director Datuk Dr Sha'ri Ngadiman.

The latest figures in the cluster included its index case, a teacher of the fully-residential boarding school and seven others, including students, who were earlier confirmed to be positive.

"To date, 114 students, 15 teachers and 10 staff members are positive, bringing the total to 139. They have been referred to the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) Covid-19 Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre.

"Their close contacts will be placed at government quarantine stations. All 139 Covid-19 cases are in stable condition and are in Categories 1 and 2A (symptomatic but low risk)," he said in a statement today.

Elaborating on the cluster, Dr Sha'ri said its index case had symptoms on Nov 22 and was confirmed positive on Nov 24.

Close contact screenings subsequently detected seven individuals, six of whom are students and another teacher, who had contracted the virus.

The Covid-19 cluster was declared on Nov 29 and named Persiaran Tasik.

"All six students have been referred to MAEPS while the two teachers are undergoing isolation at home," he said.

Dr Sh'ari said the Sepang Health Office had yesterday tested 240 students.

"The screening process continued today on 523 individuals, of whom 432 were students, 53 teachers and 38 staff," he said, adding that the Sepang Health Office will work closely with the school to handle the cluster.
