Covid-19 Care Package recipients elated at receiving aid

KUALA LUMPUR: Covid-19 Care Package (PCC) recipients in Kajang, Selangor, were elated at receiving their share of the Keluarga Malaysia assistance today.

Mohd Salleh Shafiei, 55, said he was grateful and thankful for being included as one of the PCC aid recipients.

He said the government's initiative has reached recipients in time and that it should also be extended to those in the rural areas.

"Two years into the pandemic, we are still witnessing many struggling with financial constraints, on top of having to equip ourselves with safety necessities such as face masks and hand sanitisers, let alone have an oximeter at home.

"These packages from the government show that they are ensuring no one from the B40 community is left behind, and that they are reaching out to ensure everybody is assisted," he told reporters when met at his house in Kampung Seri Jambu in Kajang, Selangor, today.

Under the PCC initiative, each recipient would receive four reusable face masks, four Covid-19 self-test kits, a pulse oximeter and a thermometer in each package.

Meanwhile, another PCC recipient, Ng Ah Pee, 80, was surprised at seeing a postman deliver the care package to her house today.

Ng said she was initially hesitant to come out of her house as she hadn't purchased anything which required postal delivery.

"However, when the postman told me that he was delivering the PCC packages, I had to come out and see it for myself.

"My doubt turned to happiness as I unboxed the package. There were so many necessities for one recipient alone.

"I hope that this package will ease other recipients' burdens, knowing that they have spare equipment if something unfortunate was to happen in the future," she said.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, on Sept 19, said the Covid-19 Care Package is expected to benefit about 3.6 million B40 households, nationwide.

Health Ministry corporate communications officer Mohd Azmi Abd Majid said the PCCs have been distributed to over 100,000 recipients nationwide since Nov 29.

He said the recipients were chosen based on data from the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN).

"These packages will continue to be distributed in stages and indefinitely.

"We hope these packages will assist recipients around the country as we are easing into the endemic phase of Covid-19 ," he said.

The packages, he said, will continue to be distributed via Pos Malaysia couriers for now.
