16 Covid-19 deaths, 3 BID cases recorded on Jan 25

KUALA LUMPUR: A total 16 Covid-19 deaths, including three brought-in-dead cases were reported in Malaysia yesterday.

The highest number of deaths were reported in Selangor with six cases, followed by Sabah with three fatalities, while Johor, Perak and Kuala Lumpur recorded two cases each.

There were no new deaths in Kedah, Kelantan, Melaka, Negri Sembilan, Perlis, Penang, Sarawak, Labuan and Putrajaya.

Active cases rose by 12.1 per cent to 45,699 Covid-19 infections.

Of Tuesday's 4,066 caseload, a total 530 of them were linked to ongoing Covid-19 clusters.

A total 452 (85.3 percent) of these cases were from education clusters while 71 (13.4 per cent) were from workplaces.

The remaining cases were traced to clusters related to religious events (4 - 0.8 percent) and community transmissions (3 - 0.6 percent).

Meanwhile the ICU utilisation nationwide is at 54.3 per cent, and 33.2 per cent of ventilators have been taken up. Hospital utilisation is at 65.8 per cent and Covid-19 quarantine and treatment centres are now operating at 37.7 per cent capacity.

Of the over 40,000 active cases, 38, 545 or 84.3 per cent are undergoing home quarantine.

A total o4,188 or 9.2 per cent of the cases have been sent to quarantine and treatment centres.
