Declining trend in Covid-19 cases on Monday with 1,486 cases and four deaths

KUALA LUMPUR: The country continued to show a slight dip in fresh Covid-19 infections in the last 24 hours, recording 1,486 cases yesterday.

On Sunday, Malaysia recorded 1,904 cases. The new daily cases on Monday (Sept 5), bring the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases to 4,792,942 in the country since the pandemic hit.

The Health Ministry's CovidNow portal reported that of the new cases, 1,484 were locally transmitted while two are imported.

Kuala Lumpur reported the highest number of fresh Covid-19 infections with 340 cases followed by Selangor at 315 and 159 cases in Sabah while Labuan reported no new cases as of yesterday.

The country's active cases showed a declining trend with 27,546 reported on Monday.

Of the cases, 94.9 per cent or 26, 154 patients are currently undergoing home quarantine while 16 are being treated at low-risk quarantine and treatment centres (PKRC).

As of Monday, 4.7 per cent or 1,297 patients were hospitalised while 79 people were admitted to the intensive care units (ICU).

Selangor topped the list with the highest number of admissions yesterday with 73 cases followed by Sabah (70) and Johor (48).

Currently, 43 patients need ventilator support. The portal reported four Covid-19 deaths including one brought-in-dead case.

One death was reported each in Johor, Negri Sembilan, Perak and Selangor, bringing the total to 36,249 Covid-19 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

The ministry also reported 2,897 patients who recovered from Covid-19 yesterday, adding to the total of 4,729,147 Covid-19 recoveries in the country.

On Covid-19 booster vaccine shots, a total 16, 221,117 people have received their first booster dose while 474,333 people in the country have received their second booster shot.

As of yesterday, the ministry administered the first booster shot to 530 people and the second booster shot to 1,227 others.
