1,337 areas in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur face water disruption

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 1,337 areas in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur are facing a water supply disruption due to an odour pollution incident detected at the Rantau Panjang water treatment plant (WTP).

Following this, Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) said they had temporarily shut down four water treatment plants - Rantau Panjang WTP, Sungai Selangor Phase 1 WTP, Sungai Selangor Phase 2 WTP, and Sungai Selangor Phase 3 WTP.

The shutdown affected eight Air Selangor regions – Petaling (370 areas), Kuala Selangor (280), Gombak (279), Klang/Shah Alam (189), Kuala Lumpur (186), Hulu Selangor (30), and Kuala Langat (3) –which resulted in unscheduled water supply disruptions.

In a latest statement shared on their Facebook page, Air Selangor said all four WTPs are operational again and the water supply is expected to be fully restored in stages since 6.30am today.

"The time period for restoring water supply in the affected areas varies depending on the distance of the user's premises and the water pressure of the distribution system.

"Air Selangor continues to actively move water tanker lorries to the affected areas to provide water supply assistance to affected users, giving priority to critical facilities like hospitals, clinics, dialysis centres and funerals during the water supply disruption," the statement read.

Air Selangor said it will be providing updates on the situation from time to time including through the media, its official communication channels on social media, as well as via www.airselangor.com and the Air Selangor app.

Consumers have also been advised to call the Air Selangor contact centre at 15300 for any further inquiries.
