Motorcyclist killed in crash at Duke Highway

KUALA LUMPUR: A 34-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a crash at kilometer 0.8 of the Duke Highway after he was thrown off his motorcycle at 9.40am.

The deceased was involved in an accident with two cars before the impact of the crash sent him flying off his machine.

He then landed on the fast lane of the highway and was stuck by a four-wheel drive vehicle which was travelling on the fast lane. The motorcyclist died at the scene.

A City Fire and Rescue spokesman said the department received a distress call at 9.44am and a team from the Sentul station was rushed to the scene.

"A team of eight firemen led by Fadli Hesam Mohamed arrived at the scene minutes later and found the victim lodged under the vehicle.

"They immediately carried out the necessary rescue measures including fixing rubber inflators under the vehicle to reduce the weight on the victim, while trying to retrieve his body from under the vehicle safely," he said, adding that the operation took about 20 minutes.

The spokesman said they finally managed to extricate the victim from underneath the vehicle at 10.20am but he was pronounced dead by the paramedics who were present at the scene.

"The man's remains were surrendered to the police for further action," he said when contacted this afternoon.
