Ex-Najib aide lodges police report against CJ

KUALA LUMPUR: A former aide of Datuk Seri Najib Razak has accused Chief Justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat of allegedly abusing her powers in defending Appeals Court Judge Datuk Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali in Najib's SRC case.

Datuk Zamil Ibrahim, who lodged a police report on the matter today, said an investigation must be carried out by the police to determine whether there had been any abuse of power by Tengku Maimun or others to protect Nazlan.

He said he came across a document on social media on a purported Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigation report against Nazlan, which indicated a violation of the Code of Ethics for Judges 2009 in judging Najib's SRC case.

"There was an element of a conflict of interest when he was a judge in the case and it's a breach in the judges code of ethics. But it seems this was not brought up or investigated.

"Based the verdict read in court by Datuk Abdul Rahman Sebli, we found that the chief Justice together with a few other judges had misused the powers vested in them. Everyone (Tengku Mainun and others have kept mum, despite repeatedly being told of Nazlan's violation in Najib's case," he said.

When speaking to reporters outside the Dang Wangi police headquarters, Zamil said a thorough investigation must be conducted to investigate the claims in the report. He proposed for a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to be set up to investigate the matter.

"In the event that the documents are fake, then the Department of Justice or a representative from their side should make an immediate police report. And if it turns out to be legit then action must be taken against Nazlan, accordingly," he said.

He added that the current leadership, which champions for justice and fairness, should look into the matter to resolve any confusion.
