Umno Youth condemns minister's alleged misconduct at KLIA

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youth today condemned the alleged misconduct of a minister at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), urging Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to take action.

Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh said the minister's position should be revoked for intruding into the arrival hall of KLIA Terminal 1 to release a detained Chinese visitor.

"I request the prime minister to take action against the minister for his unacceptable behaviour. The minister should be stripped of his position as it is not acceptable to the Malaysian people," he said in a statement.

A video alleging that a minister had intruded into the KLIA arrival hall to release a Chinese visitor detained by the Immigration Department went viral.

In the incident that occurred yesterday evening, the minister in question is accused of entering the arrival hall without obtaining the necessary security clearance and is believed to have done so to "rescue" a Chinese woman, who was not allowed to enter the country upon her arrival at the airport.

The Transport Ministry has asked the relevant authorities to conduct a detailed investigation into the incident involving the government leader.

Akmal, who is also a Merlimau State Legislative Assembly member, said being a minister did not grant anyone the freedom to do anything.

"No one is above the law, regardless of their position. Being a minister means you have to work and gain the people's trust, not the other way around," he said.
