Ex-health DG Dr Noor Hisham appointed UCSI Healthcare Group chairperson

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah has been appointed as the chairperson of UCSI Healthcare Group.

In his new role, Dr Noor Hisham will oversee the strategic direction of UCSI Hospital and other subsidiaries under UCSI Healthcare.

"Dr Noor Hisham will serve as a visiting consultant surgeon in breast, endocrine and general surgery.

"As an adjunct professor at the university, where he will contribute to clinical training programmes and medical research," said UCSI group in a statement today.

Extending a warm welcome to Dr Noor Hisham, UCSI Group chief executive officer Prof Datuk Dr Siti Hamisah Tapsir lauded his profound expertise and extensive history in public healthcare policy.

"All of us remember Dr Noor Hisham for his towering leadership and calming presence at the height of Malaysia's fight against Covid-19.

"He was at the forefront of our pandemic response, he led by example in times of crisis and his track record in public service is second to none," said Dr Siti Hamisah.

With 35 years of public service, including a decade as the health director-general, Dr Noor Hisham retired in April 2023, having received numerous awards for his contributions to public healthcare and leadership during the pandemic.

Dr Noor Hisham was also recognised by China Global TV Network as one of the world's top three doctors leading the fight against Covid-19, alongside the US disease expert Dr Anthony Fauci and former New Zealand Health director-general Ashley Bloomfield.
