Two 19-year-olds killed in crash with car driving against traffic flow

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Two 19-year-olds were killed when a man travelling against the flow of traffic crashed into them at KM 6.4 Jalan Sultan Ismail, near here, in the early hours of today.

The victims were identified as Giggs Tan Ka Qing, was at the wheels of the Honda Jazz, and Ong Wan Ling, both 19. They were killed on-the-spot in the head-on collision with a Mercedes Benz travelling against the flow of traffic.

Iskandar Puteri district police chief Assistant Commissioner Rahmat Ariffin said initial investigations revealed that a 30-year-old man in a Mercedes Benz, was travelling against the flow of traffic and is believed to have crashed into the Honda Jazz.

"The 30 -year-old driver was severely injured and is currently in the Sultan Aminah Hospital.

"We have taken his blood and urine samples to be tested for drugs and alcohol, but the results are pending.

"We are yet to take his statement to facilitate investigations under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said.

Earlier, Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Hairulnizam Mohd Noh said 20 personnel were dispatched to Jalan Horizon Hills-Iskandar Puteri, following a distress call at 4.18am.

Upon arriving at the scene, they found two mangled vehicles, and two victims in the Honda Jazz, and a man moaning in pain in the Mercedes.

"We extricated the man out first and rushed him to the hospital, after the Honda occupants were pronounced dead by the medical assistants at the scene," he said.
