Don't get lured by lucrative job offers from overseas, Fadillah reminds job seekers

KOTA BARU: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof has reminded the people to be wary of advertisements offering overseas jobs with attractive salaries for fear of becoming victims of human trafficking.

Fadillah, who is also Plantation and Commodities Minister, said job seekers who came across such opportunities should conduct their own due diligence to verify the authenticity of the offers.

"They should be doubtful if the big income offer is not in line with their qualifications.

"I would like to remind Malaysians not to become the victims to these types of syndicates. Nowadays, many of our people have fallen prey to them.

"In Myanmar, many of our citizens are still missing. Therefore, I hope parents will tell their children to be more careful (when looking for jobs)," he said after the National Kenaf and Tobacco Board's (NKTB) 50th Golden Jubilee celebration here tonight.

Thanking the Peruvian authorities for the rescue of 43 Malaysians who had fallen victim to a human trafficking syndicate operating a Macau scam, he said the government via Wisma Putra (Foreign Ministry) would do its best to bring them home.

It was reported that the Malaysians were found inside a house in La Molina, in the Peruvian capital of Lima, on Saturday.

As part of the ongoing process, said Wisma Putra, all rescued victims have been investigated and will be repatriated as soon as possible.
