JOHOR BARU: A married couple working as managers at a driving institute in Johor have been arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on suspicion of taking bribes to help candidates pass their computerised driving tests.
Sources said the 47-year-old man and his 43-year-old wife were arrested at 7pm on Monday after they gave their statements at the MACC office here.
The man and his wife have been working as administration manager and marketing manager respectively at the driving centre since 2021.
"It is learnt that they charged candidates between RM400 and RM1,000 each to guarantee they pass the computerised driving tests to get their driving licence," a source said today. Both have been released on MACC bail.
Johor MACC director Datuk Azmi Alias, when contacted, confirmed the arrests, saying the case was being investigated under Section 16 (a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009.
Azmi reminded candidates that the computerised driving tests were meant to ensure they understood traffic laws and regulations before they were given a driving licence.
"Companies handling the computerised tests must ensure that candidates sit for the examination personally. There is no shortcut to getting a licence as it involves the lives of other road users," he added.
On Sunday, Johor MACC also arrested three women, aged between 23 and 34, in connection with a similar corruption case. – BERNAMA
