Floods bring surge in snake invasions in Baling

BALING: In addition to the prospect of flooding, the current rainy spells have brought an increase in the number of snakes invading human settlements in this district.

Baling Civil Defense Force officer Mohd Faizol Abd Aziz said that 65 cases of pythons and venomous snakes, including the king cobra, were reported.

"We advise the public to be vigilant of their surroundings during this weather transition period as the reptiles are being forced out of their natural habitat and into human settlements due to flash floods.

"We wish to remind the public to immediately contact us if they come across huge or venomous snakes at their homes," he said when contacted.

Faizol said in the latest incident reported yesterday, the APM team had caught a seven-metre-long python in Kampung Sera Ulu.

He said the snake had just devoured a macaque belonging to a villager, who was shocked to see the reptile when he stepped outside to feed his pet.

"The approximately 80 kg python was safely captured by our personnel," he said.
