Crash in Merapoh leaves 7-year-old dead, 6-month-old seriously injured

LIPIS : A 7-year-old boy has died and a six-month-old infant sustained serious injuries in an accident at Kilometre (km) 57 along Jalan Lipis to Merapoh, on the Central Spine Road (CSR) here yesterday evening.

The 7-year-old boy died at 12.05am while receiving medical attention and treatment at Kuala Lipis Hospital.

Lipis district police chief, Superintendent Azli Mohd Noor said initial investigations revealed that the car was driven by the 32-year-old mother of the young victim who lost control of the vehicle where it ended up hitting the railing on the left side of the road at 6pm yesterday (Oct 26).

Also in the car were the 60-year-old father of the driver, the 23-year-old younger sibling and four children between the age of six months to seven years old who were on their way from Pasir Puteh in Kelantan to Kuala Lumpur.

"As a result of the accident, the child of the driver was rushed to the Merapoh Health Clinic and thereafter sent to Merapoh Hospital for medical attention and treatment," he said in a statement today.

According to Azli, police received information that the 7-year-old child died in hospital at 12.05am while receiving medical attention and treatment.

"Another child of the driver who is just six-months-old suffered serious injuries while the father and two other children escaped unhurt. The driver and 23-year-old younger sibling were also unhurt."
