Rangers deployed following tiger sighting in Kuala Krai

KOTA BARU: Kelantan's Wildlife and National Parks Department confirmed that it has received a report on a tiger spotted roaming in Kuala Krai recently.

Department director Mohamad Hafid Rohani said the report was lodged by villagers from Kampung Sri Bintang on Nov 18.

He said a team of rangers was sent to the scene to investigate the claim.

"The villagers claimed they spotted a tiger roaming near a water catchment area in Kampung Sri Bintang near Dabong.

"We deployed a team there soon after the report was lodged to investigate the case," he said today.

It is understood that the villagers in Kampung Sri Bintang are now afraid of leaving their homes to go to work due to the tiger's presence.

Last month alone, three people were killed in tiger attacks in Gua Musang.

On Nov 10, a 42-year-old Indonesian rubber tapper identified as Lalu Sukarya Yahya died after he was mauled to death by a tiger at Kuala Wok near Pos Pasik.

His body was found by a villager in the forest reserve.

On Nov 11, a 22-year-old Myanmar national was mauled by a tiger at a rubber smallholding in Meranto.

The victim was tapping rubber with his wife when he was attacked by the tiger.

On Nov 29, an Indonesian worker was mauled by a tiger in Kampung Kuala Tol.

Police discovered his remains 200m from his motorcycle.
