Exchange old Quran copies at Madani celebration

KUALA LUMPUR: More than 500 copies of the Quran, which were not approved by the Home Ministry (KDN), were exchanged yesterday in conjunction with the Madani government's One Year Anniversary programme, at the grounds of the Bukit Jalil National Stadium here.

The ministry's Enforcement and Control Division Secretary, Nik Yusaimi Yussof, said that the public was encouraged to come to the ministry's booth to check and exchange old copies of the Quran which have not been certified, free of charge.

He said that it was important for Muslims in Malaysia to ensure that every copy of the Quran in their possession had been checked and verified by the ministry so that every verse, line and letter was correct to be read according to the Uthmani Script.

"If the copy is approved, it will get a certificate from the Quran Printing Control and Licensing Board. The Home Ministry will attach a hologram sticker, and the Quran is suitable for people in our country to read and practice," he told reporters when met at the ministry's booth, here.

He added that the ministry did not set a limit on the number of exchanges of the Quran by each visitor.

"There is no such thing as insufficient stock. Indeed, we have prepared (Quran stock) especially for this programme," he said.

He also advised the public to check and make sure that the copy of the Quran they wanted to buy had a hologram sticker, to avoid buying manuscripts which were not certified, and might contain errors.

"Sellers, distributors and importers need to ensure that the copy of the Quran they want to sell is approved by the Home Ministry. InsyaAllah, we can reach the target of zero unapproved Quran copies," he said.

The three-day Madani celebration started on Friday, with the highlight of the programme being the closing ceremony, to be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, at 3pm today. --BERNAMA
