Kelantan flood victims surpass 15,000, several rivers exceed danger levels

KOTA BARU: The number of flood victims in Kelantan has increased to 15,216 people as of 6.30pm compared to 15,072 people earlier today.

All the victims, involving 4,702 families, are placed in 86 temporary evacuation centres in eight districts, namely Pasir Mas, Kuala Krai, Tanah Merah, Machang, Pasir Puteh, Kota Bharu, Gua Musang, and Jeli.

According to the Social Welfare Department's Disaster Information Portal, the number of flood victims in Pasir Mas has increased to 10,282 people in 30 temporary evacuation centres.

In Kuala Krai, there are 3,066 flood victims in 31 temporary evacuation centres, followed by Tanah Merah (1,305 people in 14 centres), Machang (316 people in five centres), Jeli (82 people in one centre), Gua Musang (74 people in three centres), Kota Bharu (42 people in one centre), and Pasir Puteh (39 people in one centre).

Meanwhile, the website https://publicinfobanjir.water.gov.my records that four major rivers have exceeded the danger level, three rivers have surpassed the warning level, and five rivers have exceeded the alert level.

The four rivers surpassing the danger level are Sungai Golok in Rantau Panjang at 10.81m, Sungai Kelantan in Kusial, Tanah Merah at 17.15m, Sungai Kelantan in Kuala Krai at 26.83m, and Sungai Galas Chegar Lapan in Kuala Krai at 38.04m.

Rivers exceeding the warning level include Sungai Kelantan Tambatan Diraja in Kota Baru at 4.28m, Sungai Golok in Kampung Jenob, Tanah Merah at 23.26m, and Sungai Lebir in Gua Musang at 74.41m.
