Settler suffers over RM60,000 losses due to wild animal attacks

GUA MUSANG: A Kesedar Renok Baru Land Development Plan (RKT) settler here has claimed that he has suffered more than RM60,000 in losses after his livestock and orchard were attacked and destroyed by wild animals over the past year.

Saadon Setaffa, 62, said about 2,000 banana plants and 500 oil palm plants in a 1.2 hectare orchard were destroyed by wild elephants resulting in an estimated loss of RM30,000.

"A tiger has killed 12 cows and 17 goats which has caused a loss of more than RM30,000," he told the media when met here today (January 22).

Besides fearing for his own safety, the man worried that more of his livestock and crop may be killed and destroyed by the animals.

"I hope further action can be taken by the authorities because the losses will increase over time unless these animals are caught and relocated," he said.

Meanwhile, Nenggiri assemblyman Mohd Azizi Abu Naim said he had received many complaints related to wild animal attacks and expressed hope that the authorities will take more aggressive action to deal with the problem. — Bernama
