Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh reveals pressure in starting a family with ex-husband, Dickson Poon [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: Hollywood actress and Malaysian-born Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh, 61, remains on good terms with her ex-husband and Hong Kong business mogul Dickson Poon.

Yeoh said that she is grateful for the silver lining that came from their divorce and believed it was the right decision.

"Poon's eldest daughter is my adopted child. I still maintain a connection with his first wife, and we go on vacations together.

"I think it was a wise decision to get a divorce, to step back, and not pretend that the marriage with him would work.

"We love each other, but it didn't go anywhere because there were too many high expectations," she shared on an episode of 'The goop Podcast' with Gwyneth Paltrow: Reflections on Marriage, Stunts, and Dim Sum (with Michelle Yeoh).

The Everything Everywhere All At Once star disclosed that one significant pressure in their marriage was the desire to have children.

"I knew Poon wanted a large family. Not just one, but two or three sons.

"He worked hard to expand his empire and wanted sons as heirs to take over the business later," she said.

Yeoh, the first Asian woman to win the Academy Award for Best Actress at the 95th Oscars, found it challenging to spend time with Poon.

"With work, we were constantly flying around. If there were filming projects abroad, we wouldn't see each other for months.

"When both of us were busy with work, it was difficult to find a balance," she said.

After her failed marriage, Yeoh met and later got engaged to businessman Jean Todt, 77, in 2004.

The couple tied the knot on July 27 last year in Geneva, Switzerland.
