Multiple units ablaze in Cheras' Flat Sri Sabah [Updated]

KUALA LUMPUR: The Fire and Rescue Department has confirmed that there were no casualties or injuries caused by the blaze at Flat Sri Sabah in Cheras last night.

City Fire and Rescue Department director, Nordi Pauzi said that they received the distress call around 9.19 pm, and managed to control the fire that struck five out of six houses on the flat's 17th floor at 11.22pm.

"The Block 70 residents (that are unaffected by the fire) will be allowed to return to their homes by 2am," he said during a press conference.

Nordin also said that the residents will have no problem with the electricity supply but are expected to face water disruption.

He also said that those residents that are affected by the blaze will be temporarily sheltered at a school near the flat.

"We are still investigating the cause of the fire, there was no foul play as of now," he said when asked about what started the fire.

He also admitted that there were minor issues regarding the water supply when his team arrived at the scene and used a hose on the 16th floor to control the fire.

Also at the scene, Cheras District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Zam Halim Jamaluddin said police have received multiple reports on the incident and will conduct investigations.
