Police pursuing man who clung onto rear of moving trailer

KULAI: Police are actively tracking down a man who endangered himself by clinging onto the rear of a moving trailer on the highway here.

Kulai district police chief, Superintendent Tan Seng Lee, said they came across a viral video on social media yesterday at noon regarding the incident.

He said investigations revealed that the incident occurred at 10am yesterday at kilometre 35 of the second link highway heading towards Senai.

"Initial investigations found that during the incident, the driver of a Scania lorry from Kangkar Pulai heading towards the Senai Industrial Area was unaware that a man was hanging onto the back of the trailer he was driving.

"The driver only became aware of this after his friend sent him the viral video.

"The 36-year-old lorry driver has since attended the Investigation and Traffic Enforcement Division of the Kulai district police headquarters for further investigation," he said in a statement today.

Tan urged any witnesses with information about the man to come forward and share details at the Kulai district police headquarters or contact the investigating officer at 0167573507.

The case is being investigated under Section 47(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and Section 336 of the Penal Code.

Previously, a 16-second viral video captured a man dressed in dark attire, with a bag on his back, standing and hanging onto the rear of a swiftly moving trailer.

The footage is believed to have been recorded by another lorry driver travelling on the same road.
