Plan for ferry service in Parit Bugis, Bukit Huang and Nanga Payang

SARIKEI: A ferry service will be introduced to serve residents in Bukit Huang, Parit Bugis, and Nanga Payang in Tanah Putih before extending it to the Pasi-Tanjung Manis Road, the Sarawak Public Communications Unit reported.

Urban Development and Resources Deputy Minister Datuk Len Talif Salleh said the necessary arrangements have been made in collaboration with Sarawak Infrastructure and Port Development Minister Datuk Aidel Lariwoo.

"The ferry service is aimed to benefit residents of longhouses in Nanga Payang situated less than seven kilometres from the ferry landing point.

"If we look at the demographics, Bukit Huang is predominantly inhabited by the Chinese community, Parit Bugis by the Bugis Malay community, and Nanga Payang by the Iban community," he said.

He said discussions were held during a meeting with Kuala Rajang assemblyman regarding the development plans initiated by Aidel for the Batang Rajang Crossing Project and Pasi-Tanjung Manis Road on the second day.

Furthermore, he emphasised that residents in the area still rely on boats to reach Sarikei.

"Our Public Works Department and my ministry are working closely to finalise the ferry service implementation plan and to expedite the completion of the Batang Rajang Crossing Project on the Pasi-Tanjung Manis Road soon," he said.

Len Talif also stressed the importance of ensuring that development projects proceed smoothly, as the Batang Rajang Crossing Project may face obstacles pending approval from the Kuala Rajang state assembly during the upcoming session.
