Sabah's educational fund empowers 3,050 students with RM4.4 mil allocation

KOTA KINABALU: The state government has successfully channelled RM4.4 million in aid through the Sabah State Education Fund (TPNS), benefiting 3,050 students since its inception, Sabah Media reported. This initiative underscores the government's commitment to uplifting the educational prospects of Sabah's youth, particularly those from the B40 (lower income) group.

Sabah Science, Technology and Innovation minister Datuk Dr Arifin Arif highlighted that the TPNS is a strategic move to ensure that children in Sabah have access to higher education institutions, aligning with the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) direction.

"This fund, inspired by Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, complements other educational support mechanisms like the Sabah Foundation, the State Government Scholarship, and the Sabah Islamic Religious Council, reinforcing our efforts to fortify the education sector in Sabah," he said.

The announcement was made following a ceremony where assistance was rendered to three more students, symbolising the ongoing support the TPNS aims to provide to deserving candidates. Arifin, who also serves as the Sabah Education Exco, mentioned plans for monthly meetings to ensure the continued disbursement of funds to eligible children.

This financial assistance is part of a broader strategy to empower the next generation of Sabahans, providing them with the resources they need to pursue their academic and professional aspirations. By investing in education, the Sabah government aims to foster a knowledgeable, skilled, and competitive workforce capable of contributing to the state's and the nation's development.
