IGP: Probe papers on Hadi over controversial remarks with Attorney-General's Chambers

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have completed their probe into Pas President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang over his controversial remarks on upholding Islam.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Hussain said police had submitted their investigation papers to the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) for further action.

"We have submitted the investigation papers to the AGC," he said briefly to the New Straits Times.

Hadi was investigated for his remarks under the Sedition Act 1948 and the Communications and Multimedia Act (CMA) 1998.

Last Tuesday, police recorded Hadi's statement over his statement titled "Islam's stature must be defended" on Feb 20.

His statement came after the Federal Court had struck out 16 criminal provisions in the Kelantan Syariah Criminal Code Enactment (1) 2019 on Feb 9.

Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah expressed displeasure at Hadi's statement which was directed to religious scholars, lawyers, judges, members of parliament, State Legislative Assemblies and the Malay rulers.

Hadi then sent a letter of "Menjunjung Kasih" to the Selangor Sultan.
